У статті простежено семантику лексему «віхоть» у східнополіському діалекті української мови.
The article explores the semantics of the lexeme віхоть in the Ukrainian literary language and its dialects. The meaning of word віхоть is traced on two chronological sections in the Eastern Polissian dialect. It was found that in 1940–1950 years 9 meanings of name віхоть existed in surveyed area and 47 meanings – at the beginning of XXI century. The most of them can be summarized in four main dominants – ‘bundle’, ‘rag’, ‘broom’, brush’. Lexeme means ‘washcloth’ in many subdialects of Eastern Polissian dialect. The gradual archaization of name віхоть is proved.
